English & Horse Riding (Course H)

Barton Field Farm Equestrian Centre offers students four one hour group lessons per week on well-trained horses. Lessons are open to all students at any level of riding.

Whether you have never ridden a horse before or you are an experienced rider you are offered an educational and fun lesson. You will learn:

* How to mount the horse and learn how to walk on a lead rein before progressing to trotting and cantering also on the lead rein.

* All pupils will have a go at cantering whilst being led by the end of the second lesson.

* You will be allowed to ‘walk’ and ‘trot’ on your own off the lead rope and to steer the horse by going in and out of cones and round a simple course of poles assisted.

* Over time you will be allowed to walk, trot and canter off the lead rein and will be doing cone and pole exercises unassisted. Students will be taught how to jump start with small cross poles and then larger jumps.

* Once a week there will be group rides in the countryside and around the local area.
* Hats and body protectors will be provided.

* You will be collected from and returned to the school by vehicle.

There is a local pub within walking distance if pupils would like to go for a drink or meal after lessons. Pupils will still be taken back to St Peters after this. Alternatively, students are welcome to visit the shop which stocks sweets and hot and cold beverages.
